Ancient Spanish Monastery:
16711 West Dixie Highway,
North Miami Beach,
33160, Florida, USA
Tel: 305-945-1462

Officially known as The Ancient Monastery St. Bernard de Claivaux, this wonderful piece of architecture was built in 1141 in Segovia, Spain. The Ancient Spanish Monastery is the oldest building in the western hemisphere. The Monastery was purchased and moved to the US by William Randolph Hearst in 1925. He intended the monastery to be reassembled in California, but due to financial constraints and a possible contamination of the packing material, the bricks and columns were kept in Brooklyn for 26 years. After Heart's death, the Monastery was bought by Raymond Moss and William Edgemon and reassembled in its current location in the 1950's.

Miami Freedom Tower
600 Biscayne Boulevard,
Miami, 33132, Florida, USA

The Miami Freedom Tower is a distinctive part of the city skyline. The tower, built in 1925, was originally used as the office of the Miami News & Metropolis newspaper. However, in the 1950s, the tower was used to house refugees who has fled the Castro regime. Medical services were provided to the immigrants and furnished them with information on relatives already in the US. The tower symbolized freedom from Castro's dictatorship and hence earned the name Freedom Tower. The building was abandoned in 1970s. However, it was purchased in 1997 by a Cuban-American, Jorge Mas Canosa, who restored the building and converted it into a monument for the refugees.
